Dronfield Town CouncilDronfield Town Council came into existence on 1st April 1974 as successor authority to the former Dronfield Urban District Council. The Town Council's offices were originally located at 25 High Street, a listed building near the Peel Monument. The Town Council's present offices are located at Civic Hall, Civic Centre, Dronfield. The offices were officially opened on 14th December 1999. The Town Council's responsibilities include parks and open spaces, sports facilities, public halls, allotments and a community bus. Significant improvements were made to the all-weather, floodlit, multi-games area during 1995. Play areas in various locations in the town have been upgraded and safety surfaces installed in recent years. The four allotment sites in the town (Chiverton, Coal Aston, Farwater Lane and Snape Hill) provide some 130 plots. The rents are very reasonable. The Dronfield Horticultural Society manages the allotments on behalf of the Town Council: all lettings are the responsibility of the Society, and all enquiries should be directed to the Horticultural Society (Tel: 01246 416666). The Town Council funds capital works on the allotments. The Peel Centre (a former Methodist Church owned by a charitable trust and now run as a community centre) has several rooms for hire. The Town Council administers bookings on 418573. The Town Council owns the Civic Hall and bookings are taken for the main hall, the Shaun Hadley Meeting Room and the Council Chamber. The Town Council also lets the Gosforth Lodge, Cliffe Park and has become the leading venue in the town for children's parties in the newly built community hall of the Lodge. The Town Council also administers bookings for the recently refurbished and extended Coal Aston Village Hall. Meetings of the Town Council are held on the first Monday of every month at 7.30pm in the Main Hall of Gosforth Lodge in Cliffe Park. All meetings are open to the public and a period is set aside each month for local residents to ask questions and raise any issue affecting the town. The Annual Meeting of the Town Council and the Annual Town Meeting are held on the second Monday in May at the Civic Hall.
