Dronfield in Bloom

The Dronfield in Bloom Committee was formed in December 1990 following the highly successful 'Feast of Flowers' that Summer. The committee consists of representatives from the Town Council, the District Council, the Civic Society, the Horticultural Society and several other special interest groups. The common aim is to help make Dronfield a cleaner and more colourfu1 place in which to live, work and play. The Britain in Bloom Competition is held every Summer and in 1991 Dronfield beat all towns of similar size in the East Midlands to win the Regional Title. Dronfield went on to compete in the national final, but eventually lost to St. Helier in Jersey.

Dronfield won the East Midlands Competition again in 1996 and was placed second in 1997, only three points behind the winner, Spalding.

Besides organising the bid for the East Midlands in Bloom title, the Committee also submits entries for the Derbyshire Best Kept Village Competition.

Separate applications are made on behalf of the three communities of Dronfield, Dronfield Woodhouse and Coal Aston. Our most successful season was in 1996 when Dronfield was awarded first place in its section and Dronfield Woodhouse was voted the 'most improved'. During 1998 Dronfield was awarded £120 as runner-up village in the Urban Village section and won the title of most improved village in Derbyshire.

The committee meets on average once a month and is chaired by the Town Mayor. The Secretary is Dave Hill (Tel: 01246 418066).
