Accessibility

Dronfield is six miles north of Chesterfield and six miles south of Sheffield within easy reach of the M1 and M18 Motorways, which means that London, the Midlands and the North are easily accessible.

Motorists approaching from the south should leave the M1 at junction 29 and follow the A617 in the direction of Chesterfield, then the A61 in the direction of Sheffield, and then the B6057 for Unstone and Dronfield.

Motorists approaching from the north via the M1 or M18 and M1 should leave the M1 at junction 33 following the A630 in the direction of Sheffield, then the A6102 Sheffield Ring Road and the A61 in the direction of Chesterfield. On reaching the A61 the direction indicators for the B6057 Gosforth Valley and Dronfield should be followed.

There are regular rail services from London and the Midlands to Chesterfield and from the North and Manchester to Sheffield. Following a successful campaign by local enthusiasts and interested organisations, there is now an hourly service operated by Northern Rail stopping at Dronfield Station, offering journeys northwards to Sheffield, Meadowhall and Leeds southbound to Chesterfield and Nottingham with good connections to London. The infrequent peak hour services supplement this hourly service. For the first time in many years, Dronfield now also enjoys a rail service on Sundays. There are regular bus services from Chesterfield and Sheffield throughout the day and the next campaign will attempt to try to integrate local bus times with connections at Dronfield Station.
